गोलमहल ROUND PALACE

ROUND PALACE

Unbearable stench,
Dampness and decay
Fill the round palace;
Communication with the sun
Has broken down.

Parasites occupying chairs
Push their weight
Into the earth;
They chew up pages
Of a bulky book.

Closed are the doors;
The rubble reaches
Up to the skylights;
Bats make circuit
Day and night.

Let it be buried
In the ground
And be transformed
Into compost.

['गोलमहल' कई वर्ष पूर्व लिखी मेरी एक छोटी कविता है - एक बंध के गीत जैसी. व्यंग्य मुद्रा के कारण इसे प्रायः पसंद किया जाता है - मुझे तो खैर प्रिय है ही. कभी साहित्य अकादेमी के बहुभाषी कवि सम्मलेन के लिए अपने डॉ. गोपाल शर्मा जी - आजकल कहीं ईस्ट अफ्रीका में भाषाविज्ञान के प्रोफ़ेसर हैं - ने अंग्रेजी में अनुवाद किया था. अब पुनः इसी कविता का एक और अंग्रेजी अनुवाद हैदराबाद की बहुभाषी कवयित्री सुश्री एलिजाबेथ कुरियन 'मोना' ने किया है  'हैदराबाद लिटरेरी फेस्टिवल -२०१२' के लिए. मोना जी के अनूदित पाठ के बाद यहाँ प्रस्तुत है मेरा मूल पाठ और शर्मा जी का पहले का अनूदित पाठ.]

गोल महल

गोल महल में
भारी बदबू,
सीलन औ' अवसाद;
धूप से
टूट गया संवाद .

कुर्सीजीवी कीट
बोझ से
धरती दबा रहे हैं;

मोटी एक किताब,
उसी के
पन्ने चबा रहे हैं;

दरवाज़े हैं बंद
झरोखों तक
मलबे की ढेरी;

दिवा रात्रि का आवर्तन है
चमगादड़ की फेरी;

इसको दफ़न करें मिटटी में
बन जाने दें -
खाद ! o

The round-about Palace

uncontrolable stench,grimmace and uncouth

In the round -about palace

No dialogue with the sun .

parasites on seats and chairs

suck the mould.

And chew

the pages of a heavy book.

doors,windows shut ,closed

No outside air fresh or free reach

mud filled upto the actic.

there is a cycle of day and night

the bats come and go

Let it decay and die

the very compost for fertility!
